AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League  122

Welcome to the

AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League

Hockey between local city high school teams began in 1997 with just four teams in one division, Southlake Carroll, Plano, Jesuit, and Coppell. With strong support of the Dallas Stars and the enthusiasm of local players, the second season produced 20 teams competing in two divisions, since then our league has grown to an amazing 70 teams competing for the fun of the game and the pride of their schools.

Varsity and JV each include a Gold and Silver division. At the Varsity Gold level, the four City Semi Final teams advance on to the sanctioned USA Hockey State Finals.

Concussion Memo  1235

Memo:

Concussions

12/4/09

At&t High School Hockey League Players and Families:

It is strongly recommended that any player who receives a concussion during At&t League play sit out a minimum of 14 days.  The league encourages players to be examined by, and obtain a signed written medical release from, a MD/DO before they return to play.  It is suggested that any player without the written release should not participate in practices or games until after the 14th day period.

Special Reminder!

Texas Health Resources can provide a list of 22 Physicians in the metroplex who specialize in concussions and can implement the ImPACT Post Injury Test as a tool to help determine when a player is able to return to play.

For more information regarding the ImPACT Post Injury Test please contact

Kenneth Locker at 214.345.5010 or KennethLocker@texashealth.org

Sincerely,

David Ambler

AT&T High School Hockey Rules and Format Changes for the 2009-2010 Season (UPDATED 7-22-09)  1110

Summer 2009 Newsletter

Rules and Format Changes for the 2009-2010 Season

 Revised 7/22/09

Below are the rules and format changes that will be implemented for the 2009-2010 season.  We believe that these changes will enhance the parity in the League and give its membership a better product both on and off the ice.

Junior Players (Any Tier)

  • Players rostered on any Junior Club as of October 1, 2009 will not be eligible to participate in the league at either the Varsity or Junior Varsity level

 Tier I Players

·         Tier I players may participate in the league provided they meet all league eligibility requirements including the required minimum number of games played

        (See below under Rule Changes)

League Schedule and Playoff Format

·         Varsity season will consist of 24 regular season games plus a 3-game guarantee in the pre-season showcase.  JV Season will consist of 22 regular season games 3-game guarantee in the pre-season showcase

·         Mandatory Pre-Season leveling Showcase will be held for all Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions

* Showcase will be September 11-13

* League fee will include Showcase entry fee

  • Game formats will stay the same as last season. Varsity games will be 3, 15-minute, stop-time periods

                * Ice will be resurfaced every two periods

  • Varsity Games will continue to be played on Thursdays with each rink hosting 2 games beginning at approximately 7 and 8:45 PM.  Games will be played at all Dr Pepper StarCenter locations and ITC in Richardson.  As in the past, depending on the number of Varsity teams this season, overflow games will be played on Sundays
  • Showcase Varsity games with “marquee” match-ups will be held on a few Saturdays during the season
  • Junior Varsity will play Sunday’s; 3, 12-minute, stop-time periods

·         Only the Top 8 teams in each division will qualify for the City Championships

·         All 1st Round Varsity Gold Playoff games will be best 2 out of 3. Varsity Gold Semi Final and City Championships will be single elimination

* This emphasizes the ability to qualify for the State & National Championship

·          All JV and Varsity Silver playoffs will be single elimination

State and National Tournaments

·         NEW USA HOCKEY National HS Tournament has been set for April 14-18, 2010.  The Texas Cup State Champ will advance directly to the National Tournament.  With Easter Weekend April 2-4 and Tier II Nationals April 7-11 the HS State Tournament must be held March 26-28 in order to avoid conflicts with these other events.  Therefore the Varsity Divisions will probably have games scheduled during the Spring Break period in 2010.  These may be playoff games so please let your participants know now so that they can make plans accordingly.

Rule Changes

·         Varsity overtime will now consist of a 5 min stop time 4 on 4 sudden-death period

·         3 man Shootout to follow *If necessary

·         Seniors playing JV Silver; Clubs may request to have seniors play JV Silver. Each request will be reviewed by the League and its Advisory Board with a determination made on a case by case basis.

League Review Board will require the following information

·         Tentative JV Silver Roster with DOB’s and what school players attend * Including Seniors

·         Senior player’s playing experience

·         All available Pointstreak Stats for the Senior player(s) in question

·         All players must participate in 16 of the 24 regular season games to eligible for post season play(this does not include the Pre-Season Tournament)

·         Tier 1 players must participate in 8 of the first 12 regular-season games in addition to playing in 16 of the 24 regular season games to be eligible for City, State, and National High School Championships (this does not include the Pre-Season Tournament)

·         Any Tier 1 player who does not meet requirements of playing in 8 out of the first 12 regular-season games will not be eligible to participate with their High School team in the second half of the season

·         Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis as determined by the League and the Advisory Board for long-term injuries and players moving to town in mid-season.  Exceptions will not be made for players suspended due to grades or game penalties
